Areal Flood Warning
Issued: 7:29 AM CST Feb. 21, 2018 – National Weather Service

... A Flood Warning remains in effect until 115 PM CST for
northwestern Edgar... northeastern Moultrie... Piatt... central De
Witt... Vermilion... southeastern McLean... Champaign and northern
Douglas counties...

At 720 am CST, Doppler radar and spotter reports indicated that
between 4.25 and 5.50 inches of rain had accumulated over the past 2
days. A report from 2 miles north of Homer in east central Champaign
County indicated the 48 hour total rainfall was 5.29 inches. Doppler
rainfall estimates near Philo, south of Champaign, indicated around
5.67 inches of rain fell over the past 2 days.

Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Champaign, Danville, Rantoul, Monticello, Tuscola, Urbana, Savoy,
Mahomet, Hoopeston, St. Joseph, Georgetown, Tolono, Westville,
Tilton, Villa Grove, Arthur, Catlin, Farmer City, Fisher and Bement.

Although the heavier rains have shifted south of our area, the
threat still remains for significant lowland flooding over parts of
east central Illinois into early this afternoon.

This includes the following highways...
Interstate 57 between mile markers 207 and 257.
Interstate 72 between mile markers 157 and 182.
Interstate 74 between mile markers 152 and 219.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Please report flooding to your local law enforcement agency when you
can do so safely.
