Watches & Warnings

Areal Flood Watch
Issued: 2:58 PM CST Feb. 24, 2018 – National Weather Service

... Flood Watch remains in effect until midnight CST tonight...

The Flood Watch continues for

* portions of east central and southeast Illinois, including the
following areas. In east central Illinois, Clark, Coles,
Cumberland, Edgar and Shelby counties. In southeast Illinois,
Clay, Crawford, Effingham, Jasper, Lawrence, and Richland
counties.

* Until midnight CST tonight.

* Additional rain will affect the area through late evening. Some
areas will receive another inch or more of rain, especially
south of I-70. Thunderstorms will produce locally heavier
amounts.

* This area has already received heavy rainfall the last few days,
and the ground is saturated. Much of the rain will be unable to
be absorbed into the soil, resulting in flooding of low lying
areas, and near ditches and streams. Flooding along area rivers
will be enhanced with this additional runoff.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.
