Issued: 9:10 AM CST Feb. 21, 2019 – National Weather Service

... Flood Warning extended until Sunday evening... the Flood Warning
continues for
the Sequatchie river near Whitwell TN.
* Until Sunday evening.
* At 8:15 am Thursday the stage was 14.3 feet.
* Flood stage is 14.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... the river will continue rising to near 15.0 feet by
Saturday morning... but is then expected to begin falling. The river
will fall below flood stage by early afternoon Sunday.
* At 16.0 feet... flooding of agricultural land becomes more
extensive. Water reaches the bottom of the river gage house.

The National Weather Service in Morristown has issued a

* Flood Watch for portions of southwest North Carolina, east
Tennessee, and southwest Virginia, including the following
areas, in southwest North Carolina, Cherokee and Clay. In east
Tennessee, Anderson, Bledsoe, Blount Smoky Mountains, Bradley,
Campbell, Claiborne, Cocke Smoky Mountains, east Polk,
Grainger, Hamblen, Hamilton, Hancock, Hawkins, Jefferson,
Johnson, Knox, Loudon, Marion, McMinn, Meigs, Morgan, NW
Blount, north Sevier, northwest Carter, northwest Cocke,
northwest Greene, northwest Monroe, Rhea, Roane, Scott TN,
Sequatchie, Sevier Smoky Mountains, southeast Carter,
southeast Greene, southeast Monroe, Sullivan, Unicoi, Union,
Washington TN, and west Polk. In southwest Virginia, Lee,
Russell, Scott, Washington, and wise.

* From late tonight through Saturday morning

* additional moderate to heavy rainfall will overspread the region
tonight, lasting through Saturday morning. Rainfall totals
ranging from 1 to 2 inches are expected with isolated higher
amounts closer to 3 inches possible.

* Low lying and poor drainage areas will have the greatest risk
for flooding. Creeks, streams, and main Stem rivers may also
flood.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means that conditions are favorable for heavy
rain... which may lead to flooding in and near the watch area. Be
alert for rising water or water over roadways. Keep informed...
and be ready for action if flooding is observed or if a Flood
Warning is issued. If you come to a closed or flooded Road... turn
around! Don't drown!
